As I was sitting in front of my computer on day looking at numerous message boards about how terrible UT football was going to be this season because of the schedule. I realized something. It truly doesn’t matter what the fans think because the games are played on the field. Not in the minds of countless want a be’s that have never seen a football field other than on TV or the occasional trip to Neyland Stadium much less played on one. Here’s the thing. I wish everyone would get off Coach Dooley’s back and let him do his job. He has a process in place. Last time I checked he didn’t put an article in the newspaper asking for anyone’s help or opinion. He is a football coach which means he is coaching the kids that are here to play football. The players are here for one two reasons and perhaps even three. One, to be a student. Two, to play football for the Vols and three to entertain the idiots that say they are not good enough to be here. I can say this because I played. I am not just a fan but I actually played games on that field for years. So I know what it is truly like.
If you don’t like the product on the field stay at home or pull for Vandy. Either way I am so sick of the fair weather fans that jump on the bandwagon when times are good and try and destroy the program when things are bad. Every program goes through highs and lows over the years. When I played in the 80’s we had a season where we were 5-6 and you would think that Knoxville fell into a black hole. Then we won back to back SEC Championships and went to the Sugar Bowl. Everyone said we could do no wrong. People, either get on the Bus completely with Dooley and the Team or simply keep your ass on the porch. This year’s team will compete whether you watch or not. UT will still play 12 games whether you complain or not. Funny how that all works.
So you see, the athletics department maybe going through some things right now but that doesn’t mean it’s permanent. So keep complaining and whining about how bad things are and I promise you, you will be the first one to say “I told you the VOLS would be good this year.” It’s okay. It will be our secret MR. FAIR WEATHER FAN!!! VOLS FOR LIFE!!!!
